Summer Project - DIY Bow Headband Craft
Summer is considered by many as the most colorful season of all when it comes to fashion, fun, and accessories for both kids and adults! It’s a great time to sit down with your little ones and indulge yourselves in some useful DIY crafts that will remain with your forever as beautiful memories. Gather some nice and bright piece of cloth – mostly that which you were about to throw away – and get started! Make a pretty bow that can be used both as the skin of an alligator clip or a bow on your regular black band.
Materials You Will Need:
- Colorful fabric – enough to make an oversized bow, and a little starchy to make the folds stiff
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Glue
- Hairclips
How to Make a Bow Clip:
- Cut out two leaf-like shapes, approximately 5” in length and one small but wide rectangle that’s enough to fold over the middle of the bow.
- Fold one leaf-like shape into half and stitch the corners. Make sure the stitch is smooth and doesn’t stick out. Do the same with the second leaf.
- Join the two stitched corners with another soft run stitch.
- Fold over the rectangle over the center of the bow and fix it with some glue. Make sure it camouflages the stitches well! The rectangle can also be made from a contrast fabric that coordinates well with the bow.
- Slip on the alligator clip into the space between the rectangle and the bow – you have your oversized fun bow clip ready!
This is a versatile bow that can also be used as a brooch or to embellish a plain headband. Slip a safety pin through the back of the bow and pin it on your favorite dress to cheer it up! Follow the easy steps to make more and use it in more ways than one!
