Easy Homemade Dog Treats

Everyone loves eating fresh, homemade cookies, but what family member could possibly love these treats more than you? Here's a hint—this member has four legs and a wag-happy tail! You guessed it—your best pup pal who is always appreciative of receiving a biscuit or two. However, it is important to always be mindful of what you’re feeding your canine companions. If you and your kids want to whip up something healthy and extra special for your faithful, furry friend, here is a kid-friendly recipe for making the best homemade treats that your pup will love.

Microwaved Canine Oatmeal Cookies - This recipe is fun and easy! Since there is no need to preheat the oven, your kids can get involved with most of the baking process.

This is what you will need:

  • 3/4 cup nonfat dry milk
  • 1/2 cup potato flour
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/4 cup flaxseeds
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium beef or chicken bouillon powder
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup warm water


  • Have your kids help measure out the portions of the needed ingredients.
  • In a large bowl, help your child mix the dry milk, potato flour, quick oats, flaxseeds, cornmeal, and bouillon powder together.
  • Add the butter, egg, and water to the bowl and mix it until it starts to form a ball of dough.
  • Help your kids tear off pieces of the dough to make marble-sized balls of what will be the oatmeal cookie. You can roll the balls into some extra quick oats to form a coating for the treats.
  • Using a microwave safe plate, place 10 of your pieces into the microwave for 4 minutes.
  • Remove them from the microwave and let them cool completely before you serve them to your pup!
