8 Easy Ways to Make this Christmas Merry

Everyone’s decking the halls and bringing out Christmas lights! There’s joy and festivity in the air. Everybody’s picking out gifts for their loved ones, planning a long-overdue family reunion, and getting busy in the kitchen with all the baking. And the kids are busy being nice, making up for all the naughty that they have been!

But in the midst of all the Christmas hullabaloo, there are many people out there for whom Christmas could be a whole lot better. How about spreading some Christmas cheer this December?

There are many ways in which you can bring a smile on people’s faces and make a difference. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. There’s nothing like the aroma of freshly baked cookies to cheer people up! If you don’t already know how to bake them, this is a great opportunity to learn. How about you bake a variety of cookies and take them to your workplace? Share them with your colleagues and watch everybody relish them. Sounds like a delicious, umm… great idea, doesn’t it? No better way to kick off Christmas preparations and celebrations!
  2. Time to bring out those lights and other decorations! Doing up your home is the best way to infuse everybody with the Christmas spirit. The most important and fun bit about decorating your home is that the entire family can pitch in and create something together. Talk about Christmas bonding!
  3. Aren’t there boxfuls of toys that the kids don’t use any more? Stacks of games that they’ve outgrown? Why not donate those toys to other children this Christmas? Brighten up their day and give them something to smile about.
  4. In the spirit of giving and sharing, how about having a backyard sale and donating the money you get to charity? Rummage through the attic and all your wardrobes and shelves to find everything that you don’t use any more. Get the entire family to contribute with items and help in documenting everything. Take your earnings to a charity organization of your choice and spend a day with the people there. This can be a great learning experience for kids.
  5. Time to exercise those vocal cords and hit the right notes. Why? Carol singing, of course! Sing carols every time the family is sitting together, or at the workplace before leaving for the day, or just about any time!
  6. Everybody loves gifts. How about you pick up something for everybody who you love and who has helped you in any way? Not just for close family and friends, but even colleagues, neighbors, and just about anybody who has made even a small difference in your life. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive; even a chocolate is sure to bring a smile on their face and light up their day!
  7. What’s Christmas without Santa? Be Santa for a day. Arrange for a little get-together for all the kids in your neighborhood, dress up as Santa, and distribute chocolates to all the kids. Take pictures with the little ones and simply be merry!
  8. While Christmas is every child’s favorite time of the year, do they know the history behind it? Are they familiar with St. Nick? Time to organize a short but fun history lesson with the kids on all things about Christmas and its celebrations in different parts of the world.

Make your Christmas a special one by teaching your kids the importance of giving and sharing.
