Serving Breakfast in Bed on Mother’s Day

Our mothers play a special role in our lives, and they deserve to be pampered with attention and appreciation year round, but most importantly on the one day dedicated exclusively to them each year - Mother’s Day. Here are some ideas to help you and your child whip up some easy recipes, so that the mother of your children is able to enjoy a hearty and festive breakfast in bed.

Strawberry Cooler

This delicious beverage is such a breeze to make, which makes it perfect for kids and adults that are just beginning their culinary adventures! Give Mom a great start to the day with this cool drink to prep her for the awesome day ahead.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chilled orange juice
  • 1 1/2 cup hulled strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups chilled ginger ale

Directions

  1. Ask your child to combine orange juice, strawberries and sugar in a blender. You then blend until the strawberries are pureed to a pulp.
  2. Transfer the puree into a large pitcher. Hand over the required portion of ginger ale to the little one and ask him to pour it into the puree.
  3. Place ice in a tall glass and pour the cooler into it.
  4. Place a strawberry wedge over the rim of the glass to give it a finished and fancy look.
  5. Serve the cooler with lots of love by having the kids deliver it to their mother while she relaxes in bed!

Cereal and Fruit Parfait with Yogurt

Cereals give us the necessary carbohydrates and subsequently energy to get through the day. Give Mom this healthy breakfast option by making her a parfait that is rich in nutrients and as sweet as your love for her!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup low-fat vanilla or plain yogurt
  • 1 cup berries, or other seasonal fruits
  • 1/2 cup muesli with dried fruits and nuts

Directions

  1. Ask your child to wash the fruits. You can then chop them and keep them ready for the next step.
  2. Have your child spoon the yoghurt into a bowl and layer it with the fruits and museli.
  3. Spoon another layer of yogurt over it.
  4. Stir lightly and serve.

Cheese and Mushroom Omelet

Omelets are a favorite with any breakfast eater. Supplement any sweet breakfast items for mom with this savory cheese and mushroom omelet. This protein rich recipe will be a delicious surprise to enjoy in bed!

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • Washed, boiled, and chopped mushrooms
  • 2 cubes of cheese
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  1. Have your child grate the cubes of cheese.
  2. Next, help them to beat the eggs lightly with a fork.
  3. Add the cheese, mushrooms and seasoning to the eggs.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and pour the beaten eggs into it.
  5. Spread evenly so that the eggs cover the whole pan.
  6. Fry both the sides till golden brown.
  7. Take off the pan and serve with toast.

Pancakes with Blueberry Marmalade

Is your wife a fan of the classic pancake breakfast? Pack another sweet but healthy punch to your Mother’s Day breakfast in bed with this popular treat!

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • I jar blueberry marmalade

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the center, and pour in milk, egg and oil. Mix until smooth.
  2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.
  3. Spread blueberry marmalade over the warm pancakes and serve!
