5 Goals for 5 Months: New Dads

The emotional and life-changing feelings of becoming a first-time father can get a little overwhelming, especially when you don't know what to expect. The good news is that having these feelings already makes you a good father, because chances are you are just worried about whether you can provide the best when it comes to caring for your child with your partner. These days, more fathers are more eager to dive into parenting their new child. Here are 5 goals to get you started for the first 5 months after you bring your baby home.

Goal number 1:

Tag Team - Taking turns with waking up in the middle of the night to tend to your new born can relieve the stress between you and your partner. Let one parent be "off duty" while the other one changes diapers. Being a hands-on parent will also encourage the bond between you and your child.

Goal number 2:

Making Yourself Available - Being there for your partner to help out with the baby can get a little tough while your have a full-time job. Try making arrangements with your workplace to see if you can start your shift earlier so you can get home earlier to help out with the baby.

Goal number 3:

Learn Proper Lifting Techniques - A wiggly newborn can cause damagers to your back than an older toddler who is more in tuned with their balance. Save yourself from any back pain in the future by paying attention to the way you lift your baby and other items.

Goal number 4:

Laundry - Just like tag teaming diaper duty, help out whenever you can with the laundry. You will find that your small family can build up a huge pile of dirty clothes quite quickly so address it before it gets out of hand.

Goal number 5:

Child proofing - Creating a safe haven for your newborn is easy until they grow up and become mobile. Think about all the places that they might get hurt. You will want to make sure that potential hazards are blocked off from your child's reach. Start your child proofing your home early to avoid last minute rearrangements in your home.

Becoming a father will stir up many indescribable emotions that you will never forget. Set yourself some goals as a new dad that are focused on helping your partner with your new bundle of joy. Being hands on will surely keep you close to your significant other as well as strengthening the bond between you and your new baby.
