This bright and colorful Mexican mask will look great in a Cinco de Mayo party! Whether you plan to wear it or just use it to decorate the venue, this mask will definitely grab eyeballs!
What You Need:
- Paper plate
- Pencil
- Paints or markers in bright colors
- Utility knife
- Colored paper (optional)
Directions:
- In pencil, outline the eyes, nose and mouth for the mask on the outside of a paper plate. It should look something like this –
- Draw a zigzag pattern where the forehead should be and cut it off.
- Leaving less than half an inch from the eyes, cut off the sides of the mask from the forehead downwards, rounding off the mask towards the bottom.
- Decorate the mask with bold designs. You can copy the design here, or make your own. Mexican masks come in different shapes and patterns, so feel free to use your imagination.
- Cut out the eyes. You will need to use a utility knife for this, so make sure to ask an adult for help.
- Add bright and beautiful colors to the mask! You can use paints or markers for this.
- You may even choose to add extra details to the mask by cutting out patterns in it!
- In some regions of Mexico, feathers are used to decorate masks on special occasions. Here, we decided to make our ‘feathers’ out of paper.
Cut out strips of colored paper, fold them in half and glue the halves together.
- Glue your ‘feathers’ onto the back of the mask.
There you have it amigos, a Mexican mask perfect for adding spice to any Cinco de Mayo celebration!
Tip: If you want to wear this mask, punch a hole on either side and string an elastic band through it.
