Map Your Home

1st grade curriculum includes learning and developing map skills. This consists of understanding and using a map as well as cardinal directions. Introduce your 1st graders to maps, using their own homes as a starting point. This Social Studies lesson plan teaches that a map represents a specific area. Children find it easier to learn mapping skills when they practice mapping a familiar area.
