Getting Started

Introduction

Welcome to JumpStart Advanced Kindergarten-2nd Grade: Lost Island Quest! As the newest explorer to arrive on Lost Island, you’ll have lots of fun as you make new friends, discover new places, and learn all kinds of new things. This manual shows you how.

Game Overview – How to Play

The citizens of MarineLand need your help. Their underwater world has been taken over by destructive little creatures called Punk-Punks, and they are turning their wonderful ocean floor upside down. In each World, you’ll earn sand dollars by completing learning games and missions that teach you about being a good friend, helping others, and learning to try new things.

  • Start your adventure from the sign in screen and choose what you will look like in the Jumpee Quick Change.
  • Learn how to move around the world and meet all your new JumpStart friends.
  • Play fun learning games in Bubble Trouble to earn coins and sand dollars on your way to becoming an Honorary Citizen of MarineLand and getting a swim tail of your very own.
  • Complete learning missions by doing things for your JumpStart friends. Just click on the "?" (question mark) button in the lower right corner of the screen if you ever need to know your mission.

Installing and Running

System Requirements

  • 1.2 GHz CPU and above
  • 3D video card with 64 MB dedicated memory
  • 512 MB Dedicated RAM
  • Mac OS X 10.6 or Higher
  • 1.4 GB available on hard drive
  • 16-bit color
  • 800x600 screen resolution

Installing Lost Island Quest

We highly recommended that you quit all applications before installing the game. To install the program:

  • Download JumpStart Advanced K-2: Lost Island Quest package from the Mac App Store.
  • Open the downloads folder in your Mac.
  • Double click on the JumpStart Advanced K-2: Lost Island Quest package to start the installation.
  • Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Running JumpStart Advanced K-2: Lost Island Quest

  • Double click on the JSA Lost Island Quest Icon on the desktop.
  • You can also launch the program by selecting the Jumpstart Advanced K-2 folder in the Applications folder and double-clicking the Lost Island Quest application.

Uninstalling JumpStart Advanced K-2: Lost Island Quest

To uninstall the program locate the Jumpstart Advanced K-2 folder in the Applications folder and move it to the trash.

Sign In

Begin your adventure:

  • To sign in as a new player, click on the entry box at the top and type in your name.
  • To select a name from the player list, scroll through the list and click on the name you want. The name will appear in the entry box.
  • Once you’re ready to start your adventure, click on the check mark button.
  • If you want to delete a name from the list, select the name you want to delete, then click on the trash can.
  • If you want to quit the game, click on the Exit button (the door icon) at the lower left.

Moving Around in Lost Island Quest

It’s easy to explore and have fun in MarineLand using the arrow keys on the keyboard:

  • Press the up arrow key to move forward and the left and right arrow keys to move side to side. Press the down arrow key to slow down and move backwards.
  • When the cursor is a speech bubble, you can click to talk to one of your friends.
  • When the cursor is a hand, you can click on an object to interact with it or an area to go inside.

Main Game Interface

Main Game Interface
  • Coin Counter: Displays the number of coins earned in the game.
  • The JumpStart Communicator: Gives you information about the game, access to stores and inventory.
  • Camera Button: Opens your camera so you can take photos.
  • Map Button: Opens the map so you can travel to other parts of MarineLand.
  • Exit Arrow: Quits the game.

The JumpStart Communicator

The Jumpstart Communicator gives you information about your game progress. It contains help for your current mission and quick links to Bubble Trouble, your Inventory, Stores and your Game Progress.

Click on this to get help with your current mission. Missions button : Click on this to get help with your current mission.

Learning Games button Learning Games button : Click on this, then click on the Bubble Trouble button to get to Bubble Trouble quickly.

Inventory button Inventory button : Click on this to see your current inventory.

Store button Store button : Click on this to bring up Isabella’s Traveling Cart, then click on the specific store button you want to go to.

Game Progress button Game Progress : Click on this to see your current sand dollar count and your progress towards your swim tail.

The Camera

The camera lets you take pictures of things in MarineLand.

The JumpStart Communicator
  • Click on the camera button at the lower right of the JumpStart screen.
  • Use the arrow buttons on the sides of the screen to move the camera viewfinder.
  • Click on the + and – buttons to zoom the camera in and out.
  • Press the spacebar to take a photo.
  • To exit the camera without taking a picture, click on the arrow button in the lower left corner.

Photo Gallery

 

You can save your photo if you like it, or throw it in the trash can and take another one.

  • Click on an empty frame to save your photo.
  • To delete a photo, click on the photo, then click on the trash can.
    • You can view and use your photos in places like the Art Studio or on Billboards.

      The Map

      The map lets you visit the different worlds in MarineLand.

      • To use the map, click on the map button at the lower left of the MarineLand screen.
      • Click on the location you’d like to visit, and you’ll be taken there.
      • To exit the map without choosing a new location, click on the arrow button in the lower left corner.

      Bubble Trouble Learning Game

      In Bubble Trouble, you’ll learn lots of new things and sharpen your skills, while you earn coins and sand dollar pieces towards becoming an honorary citizen of MarineLand and being awarded a swim tail of your very own.

      Lesson Menu

      Before you can start rolling, you’ll need to make a few selections.

      • First select a subject.
      • When you select the subject you want to play, the lessons for that subject will appear. To see more lessons click on the scroll arrows.
      • Choose the lesson by clicking on the name.
      • Now select the Curriculum Level to play.
      • Level 1- Recommended for children ages 4-6.
      • Level 2- Recommended for children ages 5-7.
      • Level 3- Recommended for children ages 6-8.
      • Finally, select the game play level.
      • Every time you complete a lesson, you will earn a sand dollar piece.
      • Once you have earned a sand dollar piece for that lesson, a check mark will appear on top of the sand dollar. You can play the lesson again, but you will not earn another sand dollar piece.
      • If the sand dollar is grayed out, it means there is no curriculum for that lesson level.

      Bubble Trouble

      Get to the clam shell with the correct answer by rolling your bubble across the ocean floor.

      • Listen to the question to find out what clam shell you’re looking for. Click the speaker button to hear the question again.
      • Use the arrow keys to move the bubble around the ocean floor. Try and keep your bubble away from the sleeping Punk-Punks.
      • Roll over the clam shell with the correct answer to the question being asked.
      • Once you find the correct answer, the Punk-Punks will wake up and start moving.
      • Try and get to the correct clam shell goal as fast as you can.
      • For bonus points, roll over the golden anchors.
      • If you hit a Punk-Punk, you will lose a life.
      • If you lose 3 lives, you will have to start the game over again.
      • Complete 10 stages to complete the lesson.

      Finishing a Game

      When you have completed all the stages, the dialog box shown above will appear to let you know that you earned a piece of a sand dollar. Click the check mark button to see how many coins you earned for that lesson, then click the check mark button again to return to the Lesson Menu. The sand dollar for that particular lesson will now have a check mark on top of it.

      Jean Claude needs your help cleaning up the sea floor.

      • Click on Jean Claude; choose a mission from the list, then click the check mark when you’re ready to go.
      • Once the mission is completed you will earn a sand dollar piece and a check mark will appear on top of the sand dollar.
      • You can replay any mission again, but you will not earn another sand dollar piece.

      Select a learning game from the list below to learn how to play it. (Or continue scrolling down to see the instructions for all the learning games.)

      Go to Bubble Trouble to play learning games that will reward you with sand dollar pieces and coins that you can use to update your Jumpee and to decorate the sea floor.

      Jumpee Quick Change

      Jumpee Quick Change

      The Jumpee Quick Change lets you change the way you look in MarineLand. You can come back at any time to update your Jumpee’s look.

      Click on the quick change to get started.

      Hats: Click on the Hat button, then click on a hat to try it on.

      Hairstyles: Click on the Hair button, then click on a hairstyle to see what it will look like on you.

      Heads: Click on the Heads button, then click on the face shape to see what it will look like on you.

      Tops: Click on the Tops button, then click on a top to try it on.

      Bottoms: Click on the Bottoms button, then click on a pair of pants, shorts, or a skirt to try on.

      Shoes: Click on the Shoes button, then click on a pair of shoes to try them on.

      Swim Tail: Click on the Swim Tail button, then click on the swim tail you earned in Lost Island Quest to wear while you’re swimming.

      Flight Suit: Click on the Flight Suit button, then click on the flight suit to try it on.

      Eyes: Click on the Eyes button, then click on the eyes to change your eye shape and color.

      Mouth: Click on the Mouths button, then click on different mouths to change your mouth shape and color.

      Skin Color: Click on the Skin Color button, then click on the colors to change your skin color.

      • Use the left and right arrows at the bottom of the menu to see all of the selections.
      • Use the left and right arrows below your character to see yourself from different angles.
      • Click the Exit button to leave the Jumpee Quick Change.

      Isabella’s Traveling Cart

      Isabella’s Traveling Cart is the place to go shopping in MarineLand. Inside Isabella’s is the General Goods Store and the Jumpee Mart. In the General Goods Store you can buy plant seeds, decorations, and Music CD’s. The Jumpee Mart has all the new fashions and accessories for your Jumpee to wear.

      Jukeboxes

      You can play music CDs that you purchase from The General Goods store inside Isabella’s Traveling Cart in jukeboxes throughout MarineLand.

      Jukeboxes
      • To add music, click on the jukebox. The CDs you have purchased will appear in the menu.
      • To add a CD, click on it, then click on the jukebox.
      • To turn the music off, click on the jukebox, then click in your menu to put the CD back.
      • If you have purchased lots of CDs, use the left and right arrows to see them all.
      • Click the back arrow button to exit the jukebox.

      Decoration Spots

      There are decoration spots all over MarineLand where you can put the decorations you purchased in The General Goods Store in Isabella’s Traveling Cart.

      • First, click on a decoration spot.
      • In the menu on the left, click on a decoration you’ve purchased to pick it up.
      • Click on the scroll arrows in the menu to see more decorations you can use.
      • Click on the decoration spot where you want to put the decoration to set it down.
      • To pick up a decoration you have already placed, click on it, then click anywhere in the menu on the left to put it away.
      • Click on the Help button to hear the instructions.
      • Click on the back arrow to leave the decoration spot.

      Rubble Ruins

      In Rubble Ruins, you’ll find Jean Claude’s house and Pearl Push.

      Billboards

      There are billboards around MarineLand where you can display the pictures you make in the Art Studio and photos you take in MarineLand.

      Billboards
      • To add a picture or photo, click on the Billboard. All your pictures will appear in the menu on the left.
      • Click on the buttons at the top of the menu to see your selections from your in-game camera or pictures from the Art Studio.
      • To add a picture to the Billboard, click on the picture you want, then click on the billboard.
      • If you have lots of pictures saved, use the scroll arrows to see all the pictures in a category.
      • Click on the back arrow to leave the Billboard.

      Planters

      You can plant seeds in planters, water them, and watch them grow into flowers. To grow a flower, just click on a planter.

      • Click this button to see what flower seeds you can plant. Use the scroll arrows at the bottom of the menu to see all the seeds.
      • Click a flower seed pack on the menu to select it. Click on a planter to plant the seed you chose.
      • After you've put a seed in the planter, click on the watering can, and then click on the seed to water it.

       

      • If you want to grow a different flower in the same planter, just select a new seed and add it to the planter by clicking on it. The flower you already grew will now go back into the flower menu so you can plant it somewhere else.
      • You can also remove a flower from a planter by clicking on it, then clicking the menu.
      • Click the back arrow button to exit the planter.

      Pearl Push

      The troublesome Punk-Punks have taken the pearls from the oyster. Help the oyster by rolling the pearls into the oyster before time runs out.

      Level Selection Menu

      Level Selection Menu
      • Select a level from the menu, then click on the check mark when you’re ready to go. The higher the level number the more difficult the level is.
      • Every time you complete a level, you will earn a sand dollar piece.
      • Once you have earned a sand dollar piece for that level, a check mark will appear on top of the sand dollar. You can play the level again, but you will not earn another sand dollar piece.
      Radar
      • Use the keys to move the pearl around the ocean floor. Steer the pearl in the right direction by getting behind it and pushing it toward the oyster.
      • Try and get the pearl to the oyster goal as fast as you can. If you run out of time, you will have to play the level over again to get the sand dollar piece.
      • Use the radar to locate the pearls and the oyster goal.

      Cappy Caverns

      Captain Cappy’s boat crashed in Ship Wreck Reef and he now lives in the Caverns.

      Cappy lived peacefully in the Caverns until the Punk-Punks showed up. Cappy could use your help cleaning up the Caverns and sending those little trouble-makers away.

      • Once the mission is completed, you will earn a sand dollar piece and a check mark will appear on top of the sand dollar.

      • Once the mission is completed you will earn a sand dollar piece and a check mark will appear on top of the sand dollar.
      • You can replay any mission again, but you will not earn another sand dollar piece.

      Trendy Tides Fashion Show

      Complete the perfect outfit for the assignment given, and then strut down the catwalk to show off your outfit. Make sure you strike a pose on the runway to get more points with the judges.

      • Welcome to Trendy Tides. Here you will need to make the best outfit you can for the assignment given.
      • Select the clothing that best matches the assignment.
      • Once you’ve completed your outfit, select Go To Runway.

      Catwalk

      Stroll down the catwalk and show off your outfit to the judges.

      • When you get to a star on the catwalk it is time to pose.
      • When the arrow appears over your head, press the arrow key on the keyboard that matches the direction that the arrow is pointing.
      • When you complete all three arrows correctly, you will strike a pose.
      • When you finish your walk, the judges will give you a score based on the clothing you have selected and how well you struck a pose.
      • When you complete all 3 assignments in a collection, a winner is declared based on who has the most points. Do your best to beat the other contestant.

      The Art Studio

      The Art Studio lets you make pictures that you can put on Billboards to decorate your world. Return as often as you like and make as many pictures as you like.

      Inside The Art Studio

      Drawings Drawings : Click this button, then click on the picture you’d like to color.

      Frames Frames : Click this button, then click on the frame you would like for your painting. Note: Frames are not available for Make a Card.

      Painting Tools Painting Tools : Paint with Tools!

      • You can free paint with the paint brush or spray bottle, or fill big areas of your picture with a paint can.
      • Click on a tool, then click the colored squares to pick a color.
      • Apply the color to your drawing by clicking where you want the paint to appear.

      Patterns Patterns : Click on this button, then click on the pattern you want. Once you have chosen a pattern, click on the drawing to add the pattern to the picture.

      Stickers Stickers : Choose a sticker by clicking on it, then click on the picture to place it. To erase stickers, click on the eraser, then click on the sticker you want to remove.

      Photos Photos : You can add photos you’ve taken in StoryLand to your picture.

      • Select the photo you want to add to your picture, then click on the small, medium, or large photo button at the bottom of the screen to change the size of your photo.
      • Click on the picture to place the photo.
      • To remove a photo, click on the eraser, then click on the photo.

      Eraser Eraser : Use this to erase parts of your picture.

      StartOver Start Over : Use this to start your picture over from the beginning.

      Sign Your Masterpiece Sign Your Masterpiece : Add your name to the picture by clicking on this button, then clicking the place on the picture where you want to put your name.

      Help Button Help Button : Click this button to get help on how to use the Art House.
