There's only one world available on the game I purchased, and my five year old was in tears five minutes after starting because I could not figure out how to advance the game to anything beyond what took about five minutes. The help or characters say the same things over and over, and direct to things we already did. Is that all the software purchase gets you, is the opportunity to buy "more" online? If so this is absolutely horrible and I'm going back for a refund of this and the other JumpStart product I purchased.

I must say that my 3 year old son loves My First Adventure. But I'm VERY disappointed to find out that now I must pay $8/month so he can advance in the game. If I had realized that by purchasing the cd that it didn't give me the full game I wouldn't have gotten it. I have always been very happy with the jumpstart programs but this is a big let down.

We did our best to let customer's know this is a new delivery system for us. It is listed that way on most boxes that Jumptart world is a subscription based title. On most boxes the full inside flap talks about that. We had more and more content for customers, but couldn't keep making CD games as the shelf space is at a premium at most stores, so we designed the new membership way of getting more bang for your buck. The $7.99 a month allows you access to all 4 games, as well as all of the worlds in the Beta game online. Before, if your child was more advanced than the Preschool version, you would have to go back to the store and buy a different CD, now you don't. You can try out all of the grades, all for one low price. Also note that the game you bought, has more content in it without the membership than our original CD versions. We hope you find it a good value, but as always, if you are not 100% satisfied, please follow the instructions on top of the box for a full money back guarantee.

I agree that the actual content was disapointing compared to what I was expecting. The box is quite misleading. You have to pay more to go to just about every world which is depicted on the packaging. Every hint about requiring membership has pretty artfully been obscured.

So we did get the game to move along after restarting, for some reason it wasn't building from our completion of tasks. We must have missed a step somewhere. Once we figured it out it took only an hour or two to complete the first book. After the frustrating trail and error period and a very unhappy child I realized in fact what this was (even before reading your post, which clarified). Here is my suggestion...the packaging of this product is anything but conspicuous as to what's in the box and should be more explicit about the fact that it is an introductory CD to an online fee based game available for $X. The pictures of the online games on the box are misleading, even if there is a statement that you can get more by joining online because it isn't clear what is online or what is not. The content of the CD is extremely disappointing and is little more than you would get going to free online kid sites. I think more value should be provided for a $20 CD than two hours of play. I can't speak to the value of the online membership, but I'm wary based on what I've seen so far and the free games it came with. My child did enjoy the limited amount of play, and $8 isn't bad to see what's available so we'll likely try it out. Just hope it's not as frustrating as our experience thus far.

I am very dissapointed in the game as well, what if one doesnt have internet access? Or dont want to use it? Or pay a MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FOR A TODDLER?! It defeats the entire purpose of buying a game at the store! I didnt want a trial game, i wanted a real game. I regret buying the game, i think we should have been better of buying ANY of the other cheaper games that were about half the price!

I could have gotten the same thing withought paying the extra money for the cd if I had been told about the web site first, its a rip off, not to mention I bought a pack that had a game in it called animal field trip, and then I bought a game caled animal adventure, and found out I paid twice for the same game. I purchased Jumpstart games because I had good experiences with them in the past, but I was really let down by this, and its upsetting that my son was so excited about getting computer games for his christmas presents but barely plays them, because there isn't much to do in the new games.

Actually, you can't get the same thing for free. With a paid membership not only do you get access to all 4 Virtual world games, all levels but you also get to try out the beta game, and all levels there too. The access into any of the 4 Virtual world games is really a great idea, I believe because you can try other levels. Normally, you buy a CD game, take it home, find out it is either too easy, or too hard and you are stuck. Most stores won't accept a return. With this plan, you find out Kindergarten is too easy, OK jump right into First grade game without leaving your computer. But as with every piece of software we sell, if you are not 100% happy, we will refund your money, no questions asked as long as you are in a 30 day window.

I was talking about the computer pack. I think the paying membership is a good thing, however I believe that you are marketing it the wrong way and are leaving alot of people angry and frustrated, judging by many of the post that I have read on here.

Wow my granddaughter and i loaded the free online profile and went as far as she could go. We are now a member and i can't believe how much is available. She is 2 years 4 months old and has mastered the first 3-5 adventures.... she loves the movies and especially the slides she is singing and loving every minuet. Today I’m building her a laptop because I need my PC back. When i consider there are 3 more adventures for older kids I can see years of 7.99 per month. Especially since my second granddaughter is 2 years behind her. I will admit there are some inconsistencies over the online version and the locally installed versions. so far these are minor annoyances. Once you join you can download all the Jumpstart areas and i believe they are the same as buying the DVD's but I’m not sure about that. The reason I’m here is to figure out how to unlock all the books in the library.... If someone know how please reply to this post... This product is amazing....

"More bang for your buck" when you have to buy more! Huh thats funny! Anywho. I discovered the FREE online edition this morning and I am a little disapointed. The ABC book is locked?? Why? It wasnt on the CD. The first book that she completed on the CD isnt filled when in fact she completed it on the cd. There isnt much for her to do here. Though she does really enjoy the dragon.

Does my daughter (4) enjoy it? yes. Is it worth the money on subscription or on the $80 "membership"? No, and the box is definitely misleading. You should get the full game! when you make the purchase and then have the option to purchase additional age level games on line. I intend to post a complaint at Yelp!, Pissed off consumer, and Angies List about the misleading box. When you think that you actually just paid over $100 for a $35 game you'll likely do the same. Again, it isn't about the enjoyment of the game. It is about the misleading packaging.

I agree with everyone here that the box is very vague. For 20.00 we should at least get a month free of the service. Ever "online" game on themarket offers this. All I can say is shame on your marketing company for thinking it is clear that this is an online game.

I think the amount of content this game offers, the ability to not only play the game you bought, but also any of the other Virtual world games is well worth becoming a member. Before, if you bought a kindergarten game and it was either too easy, or too hard, you were pretty much stuck with it. The stores wouldn't take it back, or after you finished it, what you had to do was go buy another game. We have eliminated that need, up to 2nd grade at least ,with grades 3-5 coming later in the year. But as always, I am here to make sure everyone is happy. If you will email me directly your concerns, and the email address you used to make the account I will give you a free month on the account to give it a test ride. I will even go one step further, if at the end of that month you think $7.99 is still a rip off, send it back and I will wave the 30 day policy and still refund your money. Let's see any other online game do that. I know of no other game where you can even install it again if you mess up, or it crashes that doesn't make you jump through loops, let alone allow you to reinstall. We don't even limit you to one install, you can install these game multiple times, have multiple players, on different machines, all for the same price. Email me direct at mike.bowman@adventure.com

If I hadn't agreed to be non-offensive this wouldn't be so nice. This is very misleading and I will never buy jumpstart again and I will advise all others not to buy it. I believed that buying the cd my child would be able to open all of the other levels as soon as he finished the first. I did not expect to have to pay more to do this. The inside cover of mine just says"Get more adventure by becoming a JUMPSTART member." nothing about get more adventure by PURCHASING a membership. I would think this would fall under misadvertisement. I feel like you are ripping off your cutomers. NOT HAPPY.

I was very impressed with the game until I found out in order to move on to the next world you must pay a montly fee. The game itself wasnt cheap . I will no longer be purchasing any more games by this company . But I will say the part that was available was very educational.

Someone made a really stupid decision to not be up front about EXACTLY what is involved with this game. Aside from the subscription being required to keep playing the game, the amount of content you get up front is pathetic for the price. I'm a grandma now and used to use JumpStart and Blaster games for my kids. There was so much content in there the kids played forever and we got our money's worth. Now, as a grandma I figure I'd buy software for my grandkids and boy was I unhappy when I saw the limited content and highway robbery of getting more. I think the executives need to address their plan here. If the plan is to be online only with a monthly fee then fine but ADVERTISE IT EXACTLY THE WAY IT IS. When parents and grandparents see a box in a store and it is implied to be a CD game - then that's what it should be. Pathetic and a major disappointment. What a waste of time and money. JumpStart should be embarassed of this tactic.

We wanted a game that could grow with the kids, and offer more content at a reasonable price tag, $7.99 a month. For that price you get access to all of the units on the original purchase, plus the ability to download a play any of the other 3 virtual worlds, as well as access to all of the units on our beta games and jumpstart.com. There was no way we could keep putting out CD games, as the stores already limit “educational software” store shelf space. We are also about to release our next large expansion. K-2. But as always, if you are unhappy with your purchase you can always ask for a refund. The instructions on on the top of the box. Or if you would like, I will give your account a free month to anyone who feels misled or ripped off. Email me directly mike.bowman@adventure.com and make sure to include the email address that you created the account under.

I bought this game for my little girl and I am highly upset that I bought a demo game for 30 bucks. I bought the game from Toys R Us and it said nowhere on the information that a monthly membership was required. I had much rather just buy another game ever so often than to have to pay 8 bucks a month, for how long? Well i have a 18mo ol and a 4mo old right behind my 4year old so thats gonna be about 6 years of 8 bucks per month so this game would have just costed me about 574 dollars, wow what a deal. I say would have because I gaurantee that the game will be in the mail on its way back first thing tomorow, you bet I want my money back and I will not be buying another game from Jumpstart of Knowledge Adventure ever again and I will warn other parents.

I have to say that the membership for these games is nothing! i am a single mom of 2 barely getting by but you better believe that 7.99 is in my account ready every single month. My daughter has learned so much by these games..... at first i was like oh crap i have to pay every month but ya know...... $8 a month for my daughter to learn all that she does before she starts school is awesome! she is going to be homeschooled so its teaching her to use the computer.... mouse ..... keyboard... etc.... I am EXTREMELY pleased!!!!!!!

I will also add my two cents. We bought this for my son's 3rd birthday. He absolutely loves the game. My husband and I are very disappointed in how your company has chosen to display information on the game box. It is very very misleading and I would have to agree with many others on these message boards in feeling like it is false advertising. We will be sending the game back for a refund and will not be buying any more of these games. I hope that in the future you can come up with a better way to tell the whole truth of it before it is bought. With all the complaints on here apparently your "best" is just not good enough yet.

Please feel free to return it for a full refund. We have listened to our customers and will have new packaging hitting the stores soon. For over 20 years we did things one way and the World titles were a brand new direction for us too. We know we stumbled along the way but are making strides to correct that. I will say this too, check around and see if there is any other online subscription based title that will offer a full refund, I don't think you are going to find many. We will always stand behind our products.

We have My First Adventure and I was disappointed that it didn't update after we purchased the membership. However my 3 year old loves to play it over and over anyway. The thing I DO like (for the membership price) is that I have mulitple computers playing the same online game and there's no fighting over the game CD purchased at the store. (we have trouble in town 5-7 which gets enough arguing).
However I can see that there will be people who go to the store expecting to find a full-length game for the price they are paying. However I bought my games on sale for $9.99 each so I'm not that disappointed.
We've had JS Advanced Kindergarten with all the expansions, plus JS Trouble in Town, JS 1st Grade...
So far we're pleased, although it's confusing when my children decide to "switch" computers ...

When you say the game didn't update, can you send me your email address? Don't post it here but send it to me at www.jumpstart.com with the email you used to install to. If you bought the membership and the game didn't update, when you click on the ? what does it say? If it says to become a member, you have two accounts. Send to mike.bowman@adventure.com

We paid 80 dollars for an annual membership and all 3 of my children have their own Jumpee and sign on name. We bought the membership thinking it was just the 1 version of the game. I'm pretty pleased right now as I just discovered that there are 3 more games they can access. We also have 2 toon town accounts that we pay almost 200 a year for. While we love ours toons and will continue to play them, I feel Jump Start is a much better deal. Thanks Jumpstart

This is the biggest waste of money. I had previously purchased Jumpstart programs for my children and the entire game was on the disc. My son purchased this "Preschool" game and only 1 world is available!!! Needless to say, this was the FINAL PURCHASE. I will also spread the word at work, baseball games ect.

Add me to the list of VERY disappointed customers. I bought the game for my daughter to use while at the cottage for the summer since we don't have internet access. I registered the product online before we left, and she got one session out of the cd before finsishing it. Had I realized that she would need the internet to go farther, there is no way I would have bought it.
Since we were up there for a month, the 30 day return window is up and now I am stuck with it. Great. I wouldn't even have the heart to try to sell it at a garage sale - what a waste of money.
The issue is not "well, you can just return it", but the fact that you sold a misleading product. Inconveniencing customers further by having to take a product back is not a good solution. I want what I think is in the package - and it's obviously not just me who was mislead.

i have just recently discovered the jumpstart games...i was unable to grab the store version as my cd drive is messed up...soo i figured maybe they have a download online...im extremely pleased to find an online version of your games..and really to the people complaining about the monthly fee.....think about all the things u have a subscription too...do u need them do they teach u anything? probably not, my daughter is 3 and loves it ... i have a game subscription and in this day and age if i have a computer subscription why shouldnt my daughter when shes learning?...so really if u are going to send the game back fine but if your kids like the game and are learning play/pay the online game..

My son (3) loves the interactive nature of Preschool World Advanced. The program itself is highly engaging and elaborate. I'm very pleased with this program (I received it as a gift about a year ago so it is the older CD based version not the internet version). Very well done from a technical and educational perspective. I was thinking I was going to purchase many other jumpstart products. However, as an IT professional, I have chosen to not allow internet access for my 3 year old's computer. Therefore, the new jumpstart programs will not fit our needs as they rely on internet access and subsequent subscription packages.
I also received First Grade World as a gift but cannot load it due to no internet access. After reading most other posts that First Grade World is just a 'front' for purchasing a subscription, I am disappointed that I'll need to find another brand of product. The need for internet access and subscription service is laughably small on the box. I concur with many on these discussion boards that the marketing department at jumpstart will submerge an otherwise great product and technical development team. I wish jumpstart would produce some of their great development efforts onto CD instead.
I do respect that the Jumpstart staff honorably try to answer these posts and attempt to solve this marketing problem. Hopefully, the new packaging will be clear enough not to have so many irate customers.

There are many options for those who don't have internet access. I have non internet versions of the programs K-2 I can trade you for. I also have Jumpstart Advanced titles that have non internet required CDs. I do know some of the JSA titles on the marked are missing the original fundamentals CD, but I can also trade those out. On the Virtual world boxes, we state on the inside front cover that virtual world titles are basically membership based. In the CD you get more content than we released in any of our previous games, we just designed a way for those games to continue to grow, instead of sending you back to the store for more and more CD purchases. As always, I am here to help. You can write me directly at mike.bowman@adventure.com and explain your situation and what you would like me to do, and I will do my best to keep you as a customer. I am beyond disappointed with my purchase. We bought the $20 the Preschool and Kindergarten package at Bestbuy. I had no idea that a membership was required each month to play more of the game. So my child will only learn letters A through I with out paying for more of the membership?? I'm sorry but if this is the case it is a huge rip off.
My son loves the game and wants to see the other worlds, but we cannot afford $8 a month for him to play. I would not have purchased this game if I knew it was like this. I feel like we only got a small fraction of the game for the price. The packaging is very misleading, and you can bet that I will not purchase any Jumpstart games in the future. We had used a Jumpstart game at our local library and my child loved it which prompted us to buy him this game.
I'm very disappointed with this game!!

I have two solutions. One is you can return it to us for a refund. Instructions are on top of the box for that. Or you can email me and I can give you a free month to try out the subscription. I have explained the subscription elsewhere on this site. If you want to try it out, email me directly at mike.bowman@adventure.com.

I have a question. If we get the free month subscription, are we able to download the rest of the alphabet learning objectives and still have access to them once the month is done?? Or can you only access the levels while paying the membership??
We are trying to decide what to do, from the two options you have given us. My child does love the game (especially the water slide) but I do not want to have paid $20 for that feature alone
Thanks for your quick reply.

GREAT NEWS! I was also very disappointed with the fact that I could not access the other 2 towns that the game promised. My 2 kids kept playing and I couldn’t believe I was required to have Internet for my toddlers. My kids computer don’t have access to internet for a reason. They are little kids! Well, I notice that one of my children was playing the game and I saw part of the first book (“My first day at School “) on the screen. I decided to investigate it and start playing his game, when I realized he was doing EXACTLY what the characters were asking him to do. For instance, if Frank asked him to go to his house and changed it, he would do that. After that he would need to talk to CJ at the movie house and he did it. CJ asked him to watch a movie and he did and so on. After while, I realized that you just have to FOLLOW INTRUCTIONS in other to complete A MISSION. Give a try! It is really and fun!

We just bought Jump Start Advanced Preschool for our daughter. She just barely got started and now she's told by the title that "in order to continue, have a parent go to Jumpstart.com." What manipulative and deceptive marketing, although I am disappointed, these days I am not surprised. I have read the staff reponses to some of the other posts about this "new" marketing strategy being posted on the inside cover. It is not on ours. We expected more from what we had thought was a reputable company. We will be looking for alternative software. I sure hope KA rethinks this strategy and again endeavors to provide quality educational titles.

I paid $19.99 + tax for the USB version of this game. A complete rip off to spend over $20 for a game my child finished within a hour and now I'm expected to pay an additional $7.99 for the other worlds...NOT A CHANCE!!! Jumpstart really needs to evaluate this SCAM!!!

So what if this was a gift and we don't have a receipt to get a refund. I am very disappointed, and so will my 3 yr old when I tell him he can't play anymore. Sorry we are in a RECESSION and I am unemployed. You are scamming people and it's just not right. For $20 the ENTIRE game should be included. For a trial such as we have, I would not pay any more than $5 tops. One world?? Give me a break!

Tonight my 4 year old son was having such a good time playing the adventure game...something he takes a lot of pride in doing since he get to navigate the world himself and make choices and learn while having fun. As his parents my wife and I both are so proud of how much he is developed in playing this game, but tonight we were all very disapointed in the misleading of our child regarding this game. When he had worked so hard to complete all the learning games and gather his stars and accomplish his tasks, he was prompted to continue his adventure online, which sounded to him and us like a lot of fun. He was so crushed to find out that this was not a continuation of his game, that we had pay a monthly fee to continue. My son was in tears, and my wife and I are both angry and very very disappointed in JumpStart for presenting this game in this manner. More warning should have been given in the manual and less appeal in going online given to our son without being aware of the way your company handles this addition to this game. Come on, you know better than that!!

Geesh! I just bought jumpstart preschool for my grand daughter. First off, I bought jumpstart games for all 4 of my children their entire life. All of them! We loved the jumpstart games. Now I was planning on buying them for my grand kids too. All I can say is I am very disappointed
The game hasn't changed in a long long time. I was expecting something a little "newer!" Now I find out that not all the content is on the disks, and I have to pay more money for the rest of it!!!!
I am extremely disappointed in Knowledge Adventure Games. I will no longer be purchasing your products.
I am also bringing this back for a refund tomorrow.

This is nothing more than a promotional sample that you are charged for. It is not a full game without subscription, and the wording is so little on the package it is very deceptive. I will be seeking a refund and apologizing to my daughter. For this I will also be notifying the Better Business Bureau, as well as use social networks to get the word out about this scam. When AOL started out, they mailed out promotional CDs for free, so people could try their service. This is what Jump Start should be doing. Instead their sales practice is misleading by charging consumers and then hooking them for a further purchases. This is just wrong and ultimately the kids pay the price. Jump Start is scamming many people who won't seek a refund for the inconvience, especially after having to tell an upset child their game goes no further. This is not a company I will deal with again and it's a pity because it does seem they have a lot to offer, but it's unjustifiable to give them my business when "baited and hooked" in such a way. I myself have a few online game memberships and would consider doing it for my daughter. Perhaps if we had come across the site prior to this scam we would of signed up, but again just knowing the company "takes" people in such a way is enough to look elsewhere.

I don't understand why people have so much trouble understanding the set up of this game system. We received a "bonus" cd in a kindergarten bundle that we bought a fewyears ago. It was Pet Playground. It had only 2 games per grade level and was limited in tricks and accessories. My kids loved it and played it over and over.
The had fun playing with the pet, they enjoyed the 2 games, they couldn't get enough. I decided then that I wanted the game, but couldn't afford the online membership at the time. I waited a whole year to get the full version of the first grade for my daughter.
I was very surprised when I started the membership that I could get all 4 games. My 2 year old (now 3) loved the preschool game. It took her several months to get to the second level of it. She didn't care that she played the same level over and over till she was able to open a new level. Then she wanted more.
We just had a computer crash and have had to re-download the games. The original cd was broken. If it wasn't for the set up that Jumpstart has, I would have had to go buy 3 new games for my kids. Not only that, but the content of them is so much more then the games I have bought in the past so it really would have taken more then three games to satisfy my kids.
The only down side is that they didn't have the lifetime membership when I started. However, I feel the content is well worth the $8 a month that we have spent. I couldn't ask for better entertainment for my kids. They learn and have fun at the same time.
