Upon launching Jumpstart World Kindergarten(downloaded version) I recieve the following "Error setting up channels" with the updating window in the background.  When I click "okay" the game exits the launching process.

Can somebody please help me?

Hello.... Tech support?

Could this have anything to do with the fact that I don't have a dedicated graphics card installed on my computer and am just using the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 as a stand alone?

I could install a GeForce 7600 GS DDR@ 512 MB in the PCI Express slot since I have one laying around here?  Could this possibly fix my problem?

You need to set your firewall to allow:

JSK.exe, JS1.exe or JS2.exe or JSWPre.exe (depending on the grade you are trying to run)

 Parent.exe

 Learngamelaunch.exe

If you do not know how to do this, let us know what firewall software (or anti-virus software)  you are running and we can send you directions.  Please send this directly to me at mike.bowman@adventure.com.

So with the firewall disabled I would also expect this to work but I am still getting this error. I have also uninstalled it from one computer that was giving me problems and installed it on a second. I am now getting the same error. It also seems to not work properly if the account is not an admin. I have major issues giving my child administrative rights to a computer. I LOVE this program; it is perfect for learning and entertaining at the same time. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, so I uninstalled and reinstalled (after backing up the records in %programdata%\knowledge adventures) then gave my child specific rights to have full control over the same folder. They can now play in their restrictive profile. I would love to know what I need to do to prevent the “Error setting up channels” from arising. It has happened to me on 2 different computers after working for a while.

Error setting up channels is 99% of the time firewall related. Even with a firewall turned off, it can still cause issues if the game was installed while it was active. This feature is a standard as most Virus programs try to disable the firewall.  I have seen where this will help.

If this doesn’t work, what you need to is turn your firewall back on, and remove our program using the uninstall  icon we provide. Go to start, programs, jumpstart world… and click on the uninstall icon. You will be asked if you want to save the files, say YES as those are the records files.  Then restart your machine, install the software but don’t allow it to auto launch into the game. Once you are back on your desktop, then double click on our icon from your desktop to see if it will launch.  At times turning the firewall off, is the thing that is preventing us from starting as that is what normal viruses try to do, turn off or disable your security.

Using JumpStart 3D Ages 5-7

I do not have a firewall, Windows Firewall is turned off, I do not have anti-virus software on this PC, but still get "Error Setting Up Channels" error message whenever I run the exe (JS1.exe is the exe).
It isn't downloaded, I bought it on disks at store.
I have cable internet access.

Running Xp, version 5.1.26

I get this error when I try to run the game using the Windows Guest account. The game seems to need administrator access to run. Also, I have found that if you install from one CD drive and try to run it from a different CD drive, you'll get the same error. (Assuming you have 2 or more CD drives)

I am pretty disappointed in this product. I have tried all the apparent solutions to fix this problem. No firewall, no anitivirus, and all permissions set, even under the admin... I have not seen such ridiculous install problems since windows 95. I have never had an install problem with any software I have ever used in 6-7-8 years... I would love my $5.00 back just because it's not worth the aggravation it's caused.

I know that this is an old thread, but it's what came up when I googled for this problem. I have no anti-virus or firewall, yet I was experiencing this error. Here's what I did to fix it:

Go to start > run

Type "msconfig" (without quotes)

Click on the tab that says 'services'. Check the boxes that say "Application Layer Gateway Service" and "Background Intelligent Transfer Service", if they are not already checked.

Click "apply". Exit, and restart the computer. The program should now work. I hope this helps people.
